How to Identify Eczema
  • First, it’s handy to know how to identify these areas so you use your RxZema® portion wisely. Most commonly, the affected areas are located on the face, back of the knees, wrist, hands and/or feet.
  • These areas will present themselves with dry, thick and/or scaly skin.
  • On fair skin the area will be reddish and then turn to brown areas.
  • On darker skin the areas may turn lighter or darker than surrounding, non affected skin. RxZema® can balance the moisture and lipid content in the skin.
Most Effective Use
  • Topical application directly onto affected areas is the best approach to take when dealing with adult onset eczema.
  • Ideally, multiple applications on these affected areas should take place right after a bath or shower.
  • Lightly pat dry these areas and apply several layers of RxZema® so that the skin pulls as much of this creme as possible during the drying process.
Regular Use to Keep Under Control
  • After your eczema is under control, it is important to keep moisturizing these previously affected areas with a much lighter application of RxZema® cream.
  • Covering the general area to maintain moisture levels is crucial when keeping future breakouts at bay.
  • Maintaining moisture is the best preventative measure in between flare-ups when you've already shown a predisposition to eczema. However, the itching and dryness can cause such an intense itch that spreading the condition by chronic scratching can worsen or magnify the issue.
When Flare Ups Occur
  • Pat thick layers of the RxZema® Cream directly onto the affected areas. If you pat thick layers and cover the area with gauze or just keep an eye on it so that the cream doesn't get rubbed off, it will be completely absorbed by the skin.
  • It is very important not to scratch your affected areas because this can make them grow much larger or spread the condition to other areas.
  • Sometimes the urge to itch can be so strong that some Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) may be required to stave off deep scratching.
  • Discontinue use of soaps and harsh detergents that come in contact with the affected areas as these can strip natural oil that the skin needs at these crucial moments.
  • For immediate results, any cooling of the skin like an ice pack, cold compress, or cool water baths can keep the inflammation from getting out of hand.
  • Remember that light emollients may not have any effect on severely dry skin which is why RxZema® is closer to ointment consistency yet can still be absorbed readily by the skin.
